  Lake Mburo National Park

 The park is located in western Uganda covering an area of about 370 square kms and its one of the smallest of Uganda’s savannah national parks. The park harbors several species of mammals including Zebras, Impalas, Elands, Topis, Buffalos, and bird population species including the rare shoe bill stork. The beautiful landscape with grass hills and idyllic lakeshores has a varied mosaic of habitats: forest galleries, rich acacia tree valleys, seasonal and permanent swamps which all support a wealth of wildlife.

Flora and Fauna
Lake Mburo national park has got about 68 different species of mammals the common ones are the Zebras, Impalas, Buffaloes, Topis, and Eland, that are herbivores and Leopards, hyenas and jackals that are predators. There are over 315 species of birds including the rare shoebill stork, papyrus yellow warbler, African fin foot, saddle billed stork, brown chested wattled plover, ground horn bill, and white wing warbler.

Within the park there’s Lake Mburo itself, the lake is rich with a diversity of animals and plant species, therefore boat trip activities are available. This enables the visitor to see crocodiles, hippos, and a variety bird species. The major tourist activity is game viewing and nature trail.

Rubanga Forest
 Within the park there’s Rubanga forest which is very small but attractive especially to the bird watchers. The forest though small, is a real high forest with closed canopy. Some common trees include acacia, sapium, erythriana. There are over 40 species of birds recorded 5 of which are forest specialist Harrier hawk, green pigeon, narina trogon, Grey- backed cameroptera and double- toothed barbet etc.

Accommodation
There are 4 tents at Rwonyo park headquarters and 3 public campsites, all strategically located to facilitate visitors, or for high class accommodation there’s Agip motel in Mbarara town, Hotel classic ltd and Mantana Luxury tented Camp.

 

Access
Its takes 3-4 hours drive from Kampala via Masaka- Mbarara high way.
