Rwenzori Mountains National Park
Rwenzori Mountains lies along the western border of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is regarded to be legendary snow-capped mountains of the moon, described by Ptolemy in AD150. Reaching an elevation of 5,109m, it is also Africa’s tallest mountain ranges, exceeded in altitude only by the free standing Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro.

The distinctive glacial peaks are visible for miles around, but the slopes above 1600m are the preserve of hikers who rate the Rwenzori to be the most challenging S of all African Mountains.
This mountain park covers a total area of 998 square km, with 120 km long. The mountain has several peaks and the highest is Margherita peak, 5,100m above sea level, therefore excellent hiking route, include the Bujuku circuit.
The main attraction is the luxuriant vegetation found above 3000m which includes the giant forms of lobelia. It’s also a home of bird species such as the Rwenzori turaco and Olive pigeon and a variety of large mammals inhabits the lower slopes, the white snow cape which always covers the mountain.
Hiking
The best time for mountaineering is during the dry seasons from mid- December to the end of March and from June to mid August.
