Highlights: Gorilla tracking in Mgahinga

Day-1
After breakfast, set off for Western Uganda. Make a stop over at the Uganda equator and experience weight changes at both hemispheres. Drive through the Acacia woodlands of Ankole and do not miss seeing the famous long horned Ankole cows. Have lunch at any hotel enroute. Continue with your journey through the terraced Kabale highlands (Kigezi highlands) on your way to Mgahinga national park. (Approximate driving time 9 hours), Dinner and overnight (F/B)

Day-2
After an early breakfast, set off for the gorilla tracking on one of the three volcanoes, (Mt Sabinyo, Mt Gahinga or Mt Muhavura). As you track expect to see mountain gorillas especially the nyakagezi group. Hike up to the top of the volcanoes and view the whole park. Return to Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day-3
After breakfast, return to Kampala with a brief stop over at Lake Bunyonyi - the 2nd deepest lake in Africa for boat riding and sight seeing.  Continue with your return journey and arrive in Kampala late  afternoon. Transfer to the Airport for your return journey home at your convenience.

Booking for gorilla permit

Booking for the gorilla permit should be done 3 months in advance to ensure that requested dates are available. This is because of a high number of trackers. The track experience starts at 8:30am local time and can take three to eight hours. The tracking fee is $500 per-person.

What to bring

5          Wear jungle shoes that can manage slopes.
6          Put on ear plugs for those who feel uncomfortable with jungle sounds.
7          Carry rain gear, sunscreen lotion, a hat (as the weather is unpredictable) and insect repellant.
8          Carry packed lunch.

When you’re with Gorillas

5          Keep your voice down or be quiet.
6          Don’t point or wave your arms this can a threat.
7          If approached by gorillas, move back wards slowly to keep 5m distance
8          Don’t use flash cameras; this could cause gorillas to charge.
